Why do we celebrate Father's Day?
An early version of Father’s Day has been celebrated by Catholic countries in Europe since medieval times. It was called Saint Joseph’s Day and was observed every year on March 19th. It commemorated Joseph, husband of Mary, and his role in raising Jesus as his own. Joseph was seen to be the ideal example of earthly fatherhood. Other fathers were encouraged to follow his example in parenting their own children.
